Ellie had a pet elephant named Tiny. Despite his name, Tiny was, well, not tiny at all. He was a full-grown elephant who lived in Ellie’s backyard.
One spring morning, Ellie woke up to a strange sound. “Ah… ah… AH…”
Oh no, she thought. Tiny’s about to sneeze!
“CHOOOOO!” The sneeze was so powerful, it blew all the leaves off the trees.
Ellie ran outside. “Tiny! Are you okay?”
Tiny looked embarrassed. “Sorry,” he trumpeted. “I think I’m allergic to something.”
Just then, Tiny’s trunk twitched again. “Ah… ah…”
“Duck!” Ellie yelled to her neighbors.
“CHOOOOO!” This time, the sneeze blew all the washing off the clotheslines. Socks and underwear rained down all over the street.
People came out of their houses, confused. “What’s going on?”
“It’s just my elephant,” Ellie explained. “He has allergies.”
Tiny’s face scrunched up again. “Ah… ah…”
Ellie had an idea. She grabbed a giant handkerchief (actually, it was a bedsheet) and ran to Tiny.
“CHOOOOO!” The sneeze caught the bedsheet and turned it into a massive parachute. It lifted Ellie right off the ground!
“Wheee!” she squealed, floating over her house.
Soon, all the kids in the neighborhood wanted a turn. Tiny happily obliged, sneezing them into the air one by one. Even grumpy old Mr. Fusspot had a go and couldn’t stop giggling as he drifted back down.
By the end of the day, Tiny’s allergies had worn off. The street was a mess of leaves and laundry, but everyone was laughing too hard to care.
As Ellie tucked Tiny in that night (with a blanket as big as a circus tent), she kissed his trunk. “You know what, Tiny? You might have big sneezes, but you’ve got an even bigger heart.”
Tiny smiled and let out a tiny, happy trumpet sound.
So remember, next time you sneeze, think of Tiny. And who knows? Maybe your sneeze will turn into a wonderful adventure too! Sweet dreams, and don’t forget your handkerchief!
