Tommy woke up one morning and knew something was weird. His alarm clock wasn’t ringing – it was singing opera!
“Rise and shine, la la laaaa!” it bellowed.
Tommy rubbed his eyes. “That’s strange,” he mumbled.
He went to brush his teeth, but when he squeezed the toothpaste, out came spaghetti!
“Mom!” Tommy called. “Something’s wrong with my toothpaste!”
But when Mom opened her mouth to answer, she barked like a dog. “Woof woof!”
Dad came running, but he was sliding on roller skates that had replaced his slippers. “Whoa!” he yelled, zooming past Tommy’s room.
Tommy looked out the window. The trees were growing lollipops instead of leaves. Cars were bouncing down the street like rubber balls. And his neighbor, old Mr. Grump, was doing cartwheels on his lawn!
At breakfast, the cereal boxes were telling jokes. “Why did the cookie go to the doctor?” one box asked. “Because it was feeling crumbly!” Another box laughed so hard, it spilled cereal all over the table.
Tommy’s sister tried to pour milk, but bubbles came out instead. Soon, the kitchen was filled with floating, rainbow bubbles.
At school, things got even crazier. The chairs started playing musical chairs by themselves. The blackboard drew funny faces that stuck their tongues out at the teacher. And during lunch, the sandwiches told riddles before allowing themselves to be eaten.
By the time Tommy got home, he was exhausted from laughing all day. He flopped onto his bed, which promptly turned into a fluffy cloud.
“What a bonkers day,” Tommy chuckled as he drifted off to sleep.
Just then, his alarm clock starting singing again. “Wake up, la la laaaa!”
Tommy’s eyes flew open. It had all been a dream! Or had it? Because there, on his bedside table, was a lollipop that looked suspiciously like it had grown on a tree…
As you go to sleep tonight, imagine what funny things might happen if your world went bonkers for a day. What would your toothpaste turn into? What would your chair do? Sweet dreams, and don’t forget to laugh!
